The F-35 Lightning II strike fighter has previously undisclosed problems with its handling, avionics, afterburner and helmet-mounted display, according to a report by the Pentagon's Director of Operational Test and Evaluation.

    I am not surprised at the wing roll and sideslipping. It is an unstable design, some software modifications should fix that.

    The engine vibration at high power settings however may not be as easy to fix.

    Oh the joys of buying brand new technology!

    I still remember how many problems we had with the CF-18s the first few years after they entered service. I'm sure this will plane will be no different.

    I agree Boots. Hi-tech aircraft have to be able to hack front-line servicing from techs in the field with a more limited array of options than are available in second or third line servicing. It takes a while before an aircraft is ready for a squadron.

    But I'm sure such fonts of defence procurement and combat aircraft knowledge like the Toronto Star, CTV or the Rideau Institute will disagree.
