"People living in the area say bears are frequently seen in the area, and don't pose a threat to residents."
Ha Ha idiots, doesnt pose a threat? Hello its a bear!!!!. You know the rip you in half if i get ahold of you type bear. Oh yeah real safe, they did the right thing
I think people would have reacted differently if conservation officers handled this instead of the police. But since conservation officers weren't available to deal with what the police saw as a aggressive animal they dealt with it the best way they thought. I hate to hear of any animal being killed like this, maybe police should be armed with tranquilizer guns for cases like this until conservation officers can arrive. A sad story.

You should check out the news links from a couple weeks ago about the idiot in Whistler who was bitten by a black bear when he got too close trying for a picture.

Gibsons resident Janeth Lesko was clearly traumatized by the experience of watching the bear being shot.
So why did she stay to watch?
I also wonder how traumatized she'd have been had the police not shot the bear and a day or so later it attacked someone's pet.... or child?
Then her , like I would blame the RCMP for not shooting it lol

At least the RCMP resisted the urge to taser it first.
Lol, true!
