Montreal resident Ellen Tannenbaum told the Canadian Jewish News that her daughter applied for a Canadian passport and asked that it list the birthplace of her child as “Jerusalem, Israel,” but Embassy officials refused. Canadian Embassy spokeswoman Natalie Amar confirmed that this is Canada’s policy “because the status of Jerusalem has not been definitely determined…Due to the present political situation, Jerusalem must stand alone. It cannot be entered in conjunction with Israel or any other country name.”
