The fact of the matter is Switzerland would have fallen regardless of the amount of casualties they inflicted on the Germans. A good defense is not about inflicting as many casualties as possible it is about detering, or failing that, expelling your enemy.

Claim...

Switzerland would not have lasted long. They were in the belly of the beast, Germany could have swallowed them up at any moment, but played it smart and decided to put down those who were actually putting up a resistance first. Leaving the fate of your country to the mercy of another is not a good i...

I don't find the idea of a military based solely on defense is realistic or appealing, regardless if it is employed successfully by other countries. What Marcarc does not seem to realize her is that Canada is not Switzerland and what works for them is not necessarily a good idea for us.
...

Want to talk about man made disasters? How about the war in Sudan? Over 2 million people have died, most of them innocent. How about Rwanda? 800 000 slaughtered within a year. The fact is, this disaster would not be getting this attention if the region wasn't crawling with rich, white tourists. Don'...

I think a lot of these so-called "activists" are the ones that are really being pompus. They assume if they have not met you at one of their little sign-waving events, you have done nothing. Some like to think civil disobedience is the epitamy of democratic action, and that you can't be a legitimate...

You can read the full article by getting a membership at foreign policy. It's free so you don't need to be a subscriber to the magazine. That was all they had to say about China and France and I've scanned google a bit and found it surprising (well not really) how underreported this story actually i...

Hey don't get to hung up on words. You're judged by your actions, not your name, right? Actually no, not in Canada. For example, the "enlightened" youth we are always talking about seem to identify themselves with Liberals based on the party's name, more than anything else. This is just from my own ...

It's a sad day when our military needs to sustain itself on donations. Canadians need to realize that the deterioration of our countries military is an urgent problem. Election after election this issue is underplayed, so next time around let's make sure people know that Canada's forces have been st...

A hospital in a large city like Toronto is sure to receive adequate resources and be able to treat many people as quickly as possible, especially with the recent SARS scare. The real waits are in small cities. In Bathurst, a city with a population of roughly 20 000, I've spent hours waiting to see a...

I'm glad you have all made assumptions as to what this soldier is aiming at. This is arm chair commentary at its worst.
