It's been broken for a long time, so wasn't being updated since posting new links was broken.

So many other news sources and aggregators now, I mean it was created before there was even social media. Often it was just a starting point for a forum discussion thread and that can still be done.

I made this site use HTTPS, forcing redirect to https for all urls and assets.

The site has been stable now for 2-3 weeks, all green on my monitoring. So the attackers are all blocked or they stopped. But we blocked a lot of IP ranges and counties.

Not sure what's going on, the site seems to just constantly be under attack. I complain to the VPS host and they block some more IPs and its ok for a few hours before going to shit again. I have the site behind Cloudflare under "High" security and bot fight mode enabled. Also rate limiting...

What if you clear your cache?

I think it will break if you try to use the site via https. It won't work, lots of resources are hardcoded to http urls. So will require some updating. So for now I'd recommend to continue using only http.

I added lots of Cloudflare firewall rules, also added some of the other sites on the same VPS server behind Cloudflare. The sites still loading fast one minute, slow the next. What are the layout issues? everything is fine for me, but there could be issues not that the site is all proxied behind Clo...

Started happening again. So I've put the site behind Cloudflare proxy now.

We banned another couple countries. It's weird they were not accessing anything resource intensive, mostly static image files.

It seems the server has been getting hammered from IPs from China. So we've blocked all Ips from China. Looking for more things to help.

Since we blocked the China ips, its all green:

I'm working with the VPS host provider to try and figure out why the sites are SO slow, don't load and degrade in performance. Not sure what's happening with MySQL atm.

Site is back for now. I'm really not sure why it keeps going down or getting slow.

Deleting old content really wouldn't have an impact.

If you load the site as https the CSS doesn't load, that's why the txt and images are scattered. I might be able to fix that.

No idea why someone hits the news links to run up the counters.

But I just found the cause of a major slowdown of the site related to that, that would lock the database up. It should be fixed now, could really help with the site stability and speed.

Scanning access logs, I found the IP of the most recent hacker 212.133.223.33, banning it.
