It's been 30 years since I was last in Egypt and would love to go back someday, but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

What a shame. One of the most interesting places in the world to visit and now you can't go there.

Now Egypt can kiss the last crumbs of their tourism industry goodbye.

In 1998 I was supposed to go on a camping expedition in Egypt where you're in a group camping outdoors near the pyramids etc.

Either they are dumb, desperate or both.

Nothing ensures you have the full weight of the law hunting you down than going after tourists in a country, especially at a major tourist attraction.

    Actually, they are quite smart.

Tourism has been a favorite target of the jihadis for a while now.
As a result, all the North African countries are hurting, because tourism was
a big part of the economy.
Hurting countries get unstable, and jihadis love it.

The fact that they will die is not relevant.
They have no value for life.

But the message is the same; stay away from North Africa.

Only the truly idiotic go anywhere near it these days.

That's nothing new, you are not supposed to know what is going on in the world.

The good part about it is that the Egyptian military is likely to use it as a reason to round up a thousand or so of the more hardcore and annoying Muslim Brotherhood pricks and "disappear" them into a black site somewhere. An occasional bit of savagery is needed to properly fight other savages from time to time.
