Three female MPs accompanied the PM during his remarks, though they had to arrive by a side door and stand with their heads covered and did not address the mosque

He did acknowledge the gender separation, though, in his remarks at the mosque, saying, Diversity is a source of strength, not just a source of weakness, and as I look at this beautiful room sisters upstairs everyone here, (I see) the diversity we have just within this mosque, within the Islamic community, within the Muslim community in Canada.

Patty Hajdu, Trudeaus minister for the status of women, was not at Mondays mosque event but said it was important to be respectful of traditions for different places of worship.

So whether youre in an indigenous community or in a community of faith or in a military community there are a number of traditions and cultures and standards that the community upholds and I think the respectful thing is to understand that it might not be your practice but it is theirs.

What a slimeball. But then upholding tradition has also been forward by posters here as a valid reason.

Well, I guess that's the new direction the left is going is to embrace segregation as the new 'diversity'.

We still had men-only bars in Qubec until 1986... and a law had to be passed to change it.

It's his singing the praises for it that bothers me. I mean it's their religion, they can do what they want. But what's next, Trudeau sings the praises of men only priests?

He definitely has a propensity for stepping in large steaming piles of controversy, doesn't he? :P

He's just trying to suck up to everybody. Something the Cons would have less propensity to do, imo.

Won't work no matter how hard he tries because when you suck up to one special interest group you inevitably alienate another and that's just the reality of the world.

Sikhs and some Jews also segregate by gender. Seems I recall pics of Harper with a hanky on his head visiting a gurdwara. Have really no other leaders ever attended a gender segregated service, or is Trudeau just getting more attention for it?

Nobody is going to suggest they desegregate, nor that a PM should not visit a mosgue or gurdwara. What bothers me is how he spewed on about how wonderful it was.

I'm sure they have, but they haven't flown the feminist flag as loudly if at all. Blatant misogyny from various religions and feminism don't really go well together. Hard to champion diversity and acceptance of those religions while also championing feminism.

L'il Potato really needs to hire someone to analyze the optics of certain things before he does them. Or says them too.

Hey ease up on young JT, he has equal representation in his caucus even though he doesn't give the women any meaningful jobs to do.

    There is no controversy.

Fake Lieberal feminists won't say a word, too afraid to upset their special little pets.
