I wonder if the timing of the two stories isn't a coincidence. Bad press about our subs...quick, get some positive headlines by giving some reporters an "inside look" with some dramatic re-enactments and drills, and brag about the boat's capabilities (that exist on paper).

Could be. The Navy has a whole cadre of spin doctors called Pubic Affairs Officers (usually washed out Mars Officers) who do nothing all day but tell the world how wonderful things are in Disneyland North.
Ah the RCN UK made Lemon Class maintained by the Canadian Lemon Yards . The RCN should visit the French, Heard Brazil got a sweet deal on new Barracuda Class Subs.
Lets not get too smart ass, the Canadian Submarine fleet is still better than our NASA manned space program.
