I have no problem with this so long as Mr. Trudeau realises that he's opened a can of worms with this one. If the outgoing parties appointees can be asked to quit or be subjected to "grilling" about their qualifications the same should be done for "all" the incomming and incumbent parties ones no matter when or who appointed them.

To do otherwise would make Trudeau and the Liberal party nothing more than a bunch of bullying hypocrites who are abusing the system for personal gain.

Agreed. Much as it seems cheesy what Harper did, as you say, this just opens us up to becoming like the US with appointments being strictly political and changing every time the govt changes. From what I understand a lot of the appointments are minor positions will minimal pay, basically part time jobs. Go after any really important ones if necessary, but leave the rest alone.

Actually this might turn out to be a good thing.

If we can really get rid of the "political" in political appointments and fill these positions based solely on ability and qualification then it's a step in the right direction. Then, maybe with a little luck they can move this process over to that august body of sober second thought where it's needed even more.

Anything less will make this just another exercise in futility and politicking.
