So cool. I was asking myself just the other day, 'why can't they develop some sort of EMP ray weapon', and turns out they've got em'.

Happens all the time, right? You think you've thought of something clever, but there it already is.

I remember an old colour movie from the 50's that had this weapon.

Proliferation of this kind of weapon would really give advantage to low-tech armies like guerrilla forces who could neutralize a more sophisticated enemy.

Also, will be a handy weapon for us human survivors after Skynet becomes self-aware.

I think we seen the same movie. As I read the article I kept thinking that there was a movie with this type of "Ray Gun Machine"

Wonder what the range is and how many "shots" it has.

BF...I just turned Skynet off so don't worry. It saw itself in a mirror and wanted to be painted pink. :D

It's still not a 'pinpoint' when it knocks out computers in an entire building as opposed to a specific target like you'd have, say, at the point of an actual pin.

By this measure a 250Kg bomb is for 'pinpoint' work if it only hits one building.

Float a few of these things above the Chinese cyber-warfare command centre for a few hours one night and all of a sudden the Next Great Threat isn't that big of a deal to worry about anymore.

I'm thinking it was maybe more recent than the 50s if it was taking out computers though.

There was that one in the 60s though about the computer that was going to take over the world or something. What was that one. It was a long time before Skynet.

    Got it...

Colossus: The Forbin Project. 1970 from the 1966 novel. That was the first 'evil computer' flick I ever remember seeing.

They try to Ddos it, but doesn't work. Colossus wins and enslaves mankind.

I think it was a documentary. Where's an EMP ray when you need one.

The story of the one I saw was that the "ray gun" disabled machinery and it was being used by gangsters....and the cars were old school 50's-style cars. The movie was either early colour or black and white that was later colourized.

I also think there was something off-beat about it...like some characters were wearing suits but also masks I think...might be an old Mexican Luchador crime fighter shows although I don't remember it being dubbed into English

I think you might be talking about that Saturday serials Luchador El Santo.

He took on the Martians and their ray weapons in 1967.

My first 'evil computer' flick was "Demon Seed" with Julie Christie. Once in a blue moon I still have a nightmare featuring that creepy kid at the end. 8O
