She's not a household name, but Marg McCuaig-Boyd is now one of the most important cabinet ministers in Rachel Notley's new NDP government in Alberta.

Yep, and to make things worst, she has one of those hyphenated names showing the world that she is one of those ball-crushing fem-commies. I hear her first move will be to pass a bill making it mandatory for anyone in Alberta filling up a Harley be dressed in a pink tutu and flying a rainbow flag.

Of all the features of the Westminster parliamentary system, putting random legislators in charge of government agencies is by far the weirdest feature.

They're just a face....bureaucrats run the departments and they stay in place even when governments change.

Kind of; Canada seems like a democracy from the outside.

Government decides policy. The Ministers convey that policy to the Ministry, but the Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers (the ones who have worked their way up from the mailroom and who know the ministry like a family) are the ones in charge of carrying out that policy. They are the 'bureaucrats' and the Ministry follows them because Ministers change every time there is an election.

To Notley's credit, she isn't pulling a Stephen Harper and is keeping the DM's and ADM's where they can be of the most use. Right where they are. All that knowledge on how to run the Ministry will then stay as an asset to the Government.

Even though we've had a massive change in Government, nothing will really change. The 'lefties' will govern from the center, like everyone else. And the new Government is going from 23 ministers to 11. Another credit to Premier Notley!

Oh, Alberta, you poor fools. You're like this good-looking kufar girl whose home is surrounded by ISIS and you're going to the door with a smile, because you're thinking, "Well, at least they're not the last guys."

You are so completely and inevitably screwed.

Eh, most of the time our agency heads have some background in that field.
