As always, Mel Hurtig is blunt when explaining the reasons for writing his latest book, an unbridled attack on Prime Minister Stephen Harper. My goal in writing this is to get rid of Harper before he destroys Canadian democracy, the former Edmonton

Well, since he is one, that would be hypocritical.

I won't be voting Tory because I think they deserve to be taught a lesson, especially over their inaction over the employment problems being caused by the fall in oil prices. Selling what was left of the Wheat Board to a Saudi power company was an insult, especially after the Saudis essentially declared economic war on us when they deliberately gutted the market. The importing of oil from the US while Canadians in the oil patch are losing their jobs and homes, on top of what's already happened is just another reason not to support the Tories any longer. Won't vote federal Dippers because Mulcair is fucking insane. That leaves JT or a third party as a protest vote for me.

Interesting question, what would you like them to do about it ?

I doubt Barry called Steven beforehand, and said "you dude, prepare your anuses,
I'm taking Putin down over Ukraine, you got 6 months / 2 years to get ready. "

Given Barry's usual record of fucking over allies, I doubt he called anyone
    except the Saudis.

You and I know full well ANY gov't program takes years to setup and implement,

even without the usual wailing from the opposition and enviroretards.

You're a moron. Proof: only a moron would say that.

Given how much he was mouthing off about what Putin was doing in Ukraine last summer I highly doubt that Harper didn't know about, or even supported in private, any plan by Obama to encourage the Persian Gulf scum to open the taps up in order to hurt Russia. If he was involved that meant he thought the Canadian industry was sacrificial in the short term, and that the pain of those losing their jobs and homes was worth whatever gain he believed would result. If he was somehow 'unaware' that the Saudis weren't going to leave the taps open in order to hurt McMurray and Bakken as much as they could then that means he was (to put it charitably) just plain gullible, not just about what kind of double-dealers the Saudis are but also about how deep the cheap shots will get during an economic war. Either way it shows that he has a pretty blas attitude towards the personal fiscal health of a large group of Canadian workers, the majority of which are generally conservative and have supported conservative parties for years. If his overall reaction to what's been happening over the last few months in Alberta can be summed up as 'oh, well...' then why should Albertans that have gotten so badly clobbered keep supporting him?

Both the US and Canadian governments flooded billions of dollars into the auto industry when GM and Chrysler nearly went under. They also moved at light-speed to prop up the criminal bankers that were entirely responsible for triggering economic Armageddon in 2008. They could have done something to help the oil companies so that at a minimum projects could be continued instead of all being postponed or cancelled at the same time, which is what's happened out there in the business. The way governments prop up businesses is a long standing precedent and obliterates completely any of this 'hands off the free market' bullshit that conservative politicians spout all the time. If they reacted that quickly to save the auto manufacturers and the banks they could have reacted just as fast to help out the oil business and it's workers.

I'm the Thanos that finally grew up in the last few months and found out the hard way that my years of supporting the angry conservative politics of my parents and grandparents has literally left me with almost nothing. I'm certainly no lefty but I'll be fucked if I ever support this kind of disconcerned and disinterested conservatism ever again. Jim Prentice found out what an angry backlash looks like. Stephen Harper can find out what it looks like again if he thinks what's going on is acceptable. If all I can do to hurt them is to use my vote against them then, goddammit, I'm going to do it.
