One day, we might wake up?

Jim McCormick, former president of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, confirmed Monday that he resigned from the party's board of directors two weeks ago.

"I cannot and will not participate on a board where the head has no respect for it, its role and its members, regardless of letter, the intent, the spirit of the constitution thus exposing volunteers to personal liability," McCormick said in a posting on Facebook.

He said he stepped down from the board of directors on March 24 after receiving "guidance" from lawyers.

The head of the PCA board is Jim Prentice.

And this is one reason Jim McCormick quit:

A former candidate kicked out of the Tory nomination in an north Edmonton riding has launched a $124,000 lawsuit against the party.

In the lawsuit, Don Martin alleges he was unfairly forced from the race in Edmonton-Decore by the party's nomination committee following false claims that he attempted to bribe another candidate.

Martin argues that he was never given a chance to review an affidavit filed with the party accusing him of bribery.

He accuses PC party executive director Kelley Charlebois, who informed him of the disqualification, of either inventing the allegations or negligently spreading them without confirming their accuracy.

Did they give justification for breaking their own fixed election law? And is anyone taking about taking them to court over it?

An Edmonton lawyer already tried (and failed) to get a court order to prevent it.

the pc's will play out the true fact that they haven't broken any laws and continue to do as the damn well please.

You can say theyre not following the spirit of their own law, but to say theyre not following the letter of their own laws is not true.

    (welcome back!!)

The law was created sufficiently vague so that they could fulfill an election promise without actually losing the ability to call snap elections like they should if they lived up to the 'spirit' of their election promise.

NDP surging in Edmonton, improving in rest of Alberta, poll says

A new poll suggests Alberta voters are taking a serious look at the NDP.

"The first few days of this campaign are showing signs of a tremendously competitive race," Quito Maggi, president of the Mainstreet Technologies, said in a news release.

"The sudden surge of new support for the NDP in both Edmonton and across Alberta is the real story."

The poll shows the NDP with a commanding lead as the choice of 40 per cent of Edmonton voters and have improved to 20 per cent province wide.

The poll also found the Wildrose Party opening a slim lead over the Progressive Conservatives with 24 per cent of the vote across Alberta compared to the Tories' 21 per cent. A poll last week placed the two front runners in a dead heat.

"The real bad news for the PCs in these numbers is that among those certain and likely to vote, the numbers get worse," Maggi said. "They trail the Wildrose Party 33 per cent to 27 per cent with the NDP not far back at 25 per cent among decided certain and likely voters."

"The NDP could become a contender in this three way race with some growth in Calgary and if they can motivate those who might and are unlikely to vote."

There is only one spot on the ballots here. The other parties actually think they're in an election. How do you think the PC's have been in power for over 40 years? Oh well, business as usual in a *democracy*.

Just because some people don't like the results doesn't make it a dictatorship. That the Libs and Dips never got their act together to provide a reasonable alternative together isn't the PC's fault.

I'm thinking about voting for the NDP, simply because I don't give a flying fuck about anything anymore. And, no, I'm not kidding. :|

I say go for it Thanos. Any NDP vote in Calgary is a kick straight in the nuts for the PCs. Myself, I'll watch the polls and see who's most likely to beat the PC candidate in my riding. At the moment only the Libs, PCs, and NDP have candidates in my riding so I'm most likely going NDP as well.

I'm not sure who I want to vote for. I kind of want to see Prentice sink, and voting Wild Rose is the best case for that in Battle River-Wainwright.

Truthfully, I don't think it matters who is in charge during the downturn, not much you can do but ride out the storm. However, in the boom times I want someone in charge who will build the heritage fund significantly.

Other issues for me - Boost Speed limits on divided expressways, and outlaw photo radar except in school zones and parks.
