The ground has truly shifted when a policeman actually says it's perfectly reasonable for a rape victim to just do nothing, or to let educational officials handle one of the most serious of crimes facing society today, Neil Macdonald writes.
And the Phi Kappa Psi frat-boys are, as respectfully as possible, considering whether, and whom, they should sue: Jackie, who has since said she stands by her story, or the important magazine that decided her story was too good to bother checking.
I hope they sue everybody they can. This is a disgusting story, as usual the woman making false accusations is not prosecuted, but still referred to as a rape 'survivor' and given anonymity. As the Frat says themselves, this doesn't just harm them, but legitimate accusations of rape.

Apparently in the politically correct paradise it's perfectly fine to make false allegations of rape against perfectly innocent men.
Well, going by comments on this forum, there are no false allegations. If a woman says it happened, it did.
What the defenders of women don't seem to realize is how damaging false accusations are to women who have been raped coming forward and being believed.
Seems to me, if the accusers are given anonymity, so should the accused until they are convicted.

Nonsense! Only the guilty are accused, everyone knows that!
Since that attitude pervades our society, maybe the names of all accused, not just in rape cases, should be hidden.
No, there is no way for the public to ensure justice is done if facts are kept private. In the case of falsely accusing someone of rape, it's the damage that's done to the person's reputation pretty much forever, that is the problem.
The Internet never forgets, and the media never covers an acquittal as vigorously as it does an accusation. If it can be proven that the accusation was false, I think the person who made the accusation should get equal 'attention' as the person wrongly accused did.
Let's make sure than searching someone's name will bring up the fact that the accusation was false to the top of the search results.
That doesn't help either, since mostly now we seems to have these cases decided by trial by media, who, as we've seen, are willing to publish anything and everything.

The public isn't responsible to serve out justice so they have no reason to know who is accused of what crime and what the evidence may be. That's the job of the jury and the judge.
The public and the media aren't interested in covering people who make false allegations or someone being proven innocent of the charges...they're more interested in the charges ...the actual outcome of the case/trial is of little interest to the general public.

I agree.
In most cases, unless public safety is a concern, the names the accused should always remain private until a conviction.

That's right! The facts are irrelevant! The only thing that matters is the seriousness of the charges!
