A handful of young men who took up arms with IS to fight for an Islamic caliphate across the region have, either directly or through their families at home, contacted Australian authorities for help.

At least they didn't bravely storm the ramparts of their local coffee shop.

Oh this is damn priceless! I hope the Aussies tell them to go F themselves. If they want out there is another option.

It is believed up to a dozen Australians, most of whom flew to Syria to join militants fighting the al-Assad regime, found themselves in limbo after laying down their weapons but fearing they would be arrested under tougher counterterrorism laws if they returned to Australia.

The men, including two from Queensland and several from other states, claim they were duped into fighting with terror groups after IS took control of a range of militant outfits. Many foreign recruits have been dragooned into the IS rampage against Shiite Muslims after arriving to fight Syrian forces.

The US was and continues to aid groups fighting Assad. Seems quite reasonable to allow these people to return.

They willingly put themselves into potential shit storm they can find their own way out of it. Besides, how do we know they are not ISIS plants just getting government aid to return home and blow something up? Nah, screw'm.

Well, they can't be kept out if they are citizens. So you'd have to jail them - that won't stop them from blowing things up when they get out, in fact make it more likely, since they'll have a criminal record and won't be able to establish a normal life. I say put them under probation for a good long period, make them do community service by speaking out against joining ISIS or going to the ME to fight. If they keep their nose clean ans speak against jihad, let em live their lives.

Given recent events in Sydney, if the Aussies were smart, the only way they'd allow these fuckers back into their country is when their next of kin picked up the ashes.

But, if they insist on allowing them back, then breakout the waterboards, car batteries and bamboo stakes because these fuckers should have every bit of information, relative or not beaten out of them.
