It's obvious that $368 and 3 points is only enough to make them laugh.

102 in a 50 should be bye bye car, and I don't mean just a tow.

Wow! Talk about a slap on the wrist. In Alberta going twice the limit brings an automatic court appearance. I don't know what the eventual outcome usually is here in a case like that, but I knew a few guys back in my sport bike days who lost their bikes and licenses for speeds like that.

There is a reason for speed limits. Residential areas are not designed for those speeds. As a result:

That car was a day old, and cost in excess of $1m. Just lucky he didn't take anyone else with him.

Throw the book at people who do this. It puts too many others at risk for no good reason.

Stupid cars to own in the first place. No reason to allow cars like that on the road.

Wonder who this guy knows, because the cops have certainly been tougher on other idiots driving too fast.

Au contraire! Supercars and hypercars can be one of the best cars for the perfectionist to drive. There is nothing illegal about pushing it to a limit of 0 - 100 in 2.5 seconds, so long as you do it in a 100 zone! You'd never be able to push a car like that to your limits unless you were on a track. And I've seen many people who have, and pushed them past the limits. And some cars got badly badly hurt. But the people walked away, and no one else was in danger.

It's the idiots who think they can handle a car like that, with no experience and on public roads, that make them dangerous.

There are no 100 zones where you can legally go from a dead stop - those are freeways, ie you can't just stop in the middle to show off your acceleration prowess. At best you can show off going 50 to 100 a little quicker than the next guy.

As you say, there's nowhere you can legally come anywhere near the limits of those cars. They're just dick machines that waste gas.

You want to drive on a track, why not buy a race car just for that, drive something normal on the road.

Nope. I know a couple places around that go from a red light to a 100 zone / highway on the other side of the light. I used to have a great deal of fun embarrassing Corvettes and Mustangs at those lights with my 'Grandpa' car.

So why should you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a road legal car that you don't drive on the roads? Especially a car that is designed to be driven. There really is no better feeling in the world than driving a great car to it's ultimate intention. And yes, that does mean respecting all the rules of the road.

    Oh, and that wrecked McLaren P1 - it's a Hybrid. ;)

Yeah ,it's a hybrid. Like and Escalade hybrid claiming to be green. More bullshit.

Well, we let people drive what they want, so have at it.

Preaching to the choir here. I bought my F-150 specifically to tow my race car to the track. But I've also driven a BMW M6, and it's just . . .

Not bullshit. It has a 25km range using electric only, something many Hybrids can't do!

at what speed? Also, the mileage figures given for hybrids are even more imaginary than those for gas cars. People complain because in real world driving, they don't get anywhere near the mileage that was promised. An Escalade or McLaren hybrid may be a bit greener than the regular versions, but not much. Drive the McLaren the way you talk about, and it will suck the batteries dry in no time, after which they're just dead weight while you use the engine to run the thing. Meanwhile you have those toxic batteries to dispose of at some point. The whole hybrid thing has a lot of bullshit in it, but especially the pigmobiles. You want a hybrid, buy a prius - it's actually built to save fuel in other ways (skinny tires etc). People who buy an Escalade hybrid just want to feel good about buying a pigmobile.

I'll see your 52 over Lambo and play my 83 over, old pick up truck.

EDMONTON - A 26-year-old Sylvan Lake man is facing multiple charges after being found driving 83 km/h over the speed limit in a residential area without a valid drivers licence.

A peace officer stopped a pickup truck on 50th Avenue in the town of Sylvan Lake at 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 8 after it was clocked on radar going 123 km/h in a residential area where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

Unsound is right, slap on the wrist, 50 over in Alberta will also get you a dangerous driving charge and a 1 year license suspension.

So we can expect you to start agitating for laws against high performance vehicles and 'dangerous' looking accessories like fancy rims, spoilers, and other cosmetic features that indicate an assault vehicle?

Maybe you can start with a registration scheme that requires background checks and severe limits on how many such cars anyone can own? And then you can come up with a 'buy back' scheme to get these dangerous vehicles off the streets. It might also be prudent to see about forcing people to turn them in.

After all, if it saves just one life it's worth it, right?

Oh, but we need to have exceptions to these laws so law enforcement and the politically well-connected can have access to these vehicles. Given that their badges make them infallible drivers I'm sure we can trust them with a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Hey, while you're at it why not just require people to get permission from your all-seeing government to do anything? Wouldn't that be just grand if every human act were regulated by a bureaucracy for the good of society? Maybe you could come up with a Five Year Plan to implement this new society that will produce the New Canadian Person?

You might also want to modify the flag a tad for your new vision of society:

Nah. Just build in speed governors that can't be removed. You want a dickmobile, fine, but you can't do 300 kph in it. Although the registration scheme sounds like a good idea. Wait, I think we already have that.

We'd also need to do something about the acceleration.

Wait, you want vehicles to get better fuel economy, but then limit their speed so they don't get better fuel economy?

Having a case of the "Mondays"?
