WINNIPEG - An African immigrant sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison for a violent sex attack on his girlfriend told corrections officials physical force against women is acceptable in his culture.

So give him a choice - go back to his culture or spend time in prison here. In fact send him back to his culture after he learned about using violence to enforce respect in prison.

I thought Toews was tough on crime, yet he deems 10 years to be excessive for this violent rape?

So essentially, he's saying that when released, there's a good chance he'll do it again.

He doesn't give us much of a choice... we send him back to Africa or we lock him up for life.

Then he's a freaking idiot. And where the hell is the defence from if they recommended two years?

"He said I had to come in the room," she said. "He said he's older than me and he's my boyfriend...

That meant I had to listen to him."

No, that means that he should go f*ck himself. In this country that type of behaviour is not acceptable. It's a shame that it is where they are from.

Stray thought here-wouldn't a lot of places in Africa, particularly where law enforcement is corrupt or non-existent, prescribe some rather violent retribution against this asshole for what he did?

So if "African" culture is to blame for this, how does he justify avoiding getting shanked or beaten to death for this, if he thinks that his country of origin is an excuse for doing this shit?

Probably not, if the culture deems what he did is OK, the cops will think he did nothing wrong.

I want to know why the fark we are importing people like this? Don't we get enough immigrants applying who can fit in? There was that Afghan guy who had two wives, killed one and his two daughters, claimed it was his culture to do so. The cons are finally enacting laws that make "it's my culture" not a valid defense. REally? you mean up to now it was. That Afghan guy had at least two wives. Was allowed to immigrate with one wife, then sponsored the other as an "auntie." Again, we're just now passing laws to prevent this. And being warned that it will piss off countries where polygamy is legal. Who the fark cares?

Meh, another 250,000 immigrants coming in next year.

If we are not accepting culture as a defense, we obviously need more

Enrichment and Diversity to correct this.
