The so-called "spin-o-rama" move was banned from use in shootouts and penalty shots by the NHL as part of a package of rules changes released Thursday.

Oh good lord... A lot of these changes are just crap and are going to further kill the sport.
I miss the old days.

The Spin-o-rama and expansion of Tripping seem the most pointless of the changes.

I like the Offensive zone face-offs for shots that deflect off the posts. More video review options are good, but these reviews have to be done quicker, especially if they are going to be applied to more situations.

If they actually enforced the rule properly, they wouldn't have to mention "spin-o-rama". The puck must always be in a forward motion on a penalty shot/shootout.

FFS that was the only interesting thing about a shootout. European Hockey 101. Bring back overtime and ties.

Interference is going to be a major??? What the hell man? Crap rule

"A two-minute tripping penalty may be called on defending players who trip players with their body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player makes initial contact with the puck": crap rule.

"To curb face-off delay tactics following an icing call, a defending team committing a second faceoff violation (after a warning is issued) will receive a two-minute bench minor": About damn time!!

And for God's sake, when calling a penalty where a dive occurs, either call the damn dive or call the original penalty, not both.

I also think putting the puck over the glass in your zone should not be 2 minutes in the box but treated the same as an icing.

Leave it to the NHL to do what they can to take all the fun out of something. The spinarooni must have been hurting the goaltenders feelings too much.

They take no time at all with something as minor as this, yet it takes them years to do something about killing a player chasing an icing puck.

Hockey is too competitive and the whole notion of winning and losing does harm to the self-esteem of those players who don't win. The NHL really needs to stop keeping score and then at the end of the game to give everyone a medal for sportsmanship so they all feel equal and self-actualized.

Amazingly, I wrote this without projectile vomiting.

    R=UP R=UP R=UP R=UP

    Yes!!

Ultimately, most of the horsecrap rule changes came after that first big expansion in an effort to "draw more attention from the American viewers". Remember the yellow puck dancing across your screen? As far as I'm concerned, if a great sport such as hockey can't draw their attention, screw them! They can go back to their baseball and basketball and NFL and leave our sport the hell alone. We liked it just fine, and could even it!

If the NHL keeps it up, the fans they're going to lose are the die hard Canadian ones. Then they're gonna find out what a losing venture is all about.

After suffering through the better part of the CFL season that saw penalties rise steadily due to the new rules, I a not looking forward to the delays that video review cause - they slow the game down whether hockey or football.
