I think in some of them, the main open space in the Legion is classified as a 'bar'.

    That could be the problem.

They are, but they are also a private club, not a public one. Kids are welcome usually on Saturdays, Remembrance days, and at any private function. Alcohol is served at those times.

So I don't see why this is new.

    Yup

But to be honest if they think this will save their branch then they're farting against thunder. People whether they're retired military, ex military, serving military, children of military personnel, relatives of military personnel or just civilians off the street don't join service clubs anymore. Take a look around at how many Elk's, Eagles and Moose Halls have closed in the past 25 years and you have the answer what's happening to the Legion and other groups like all the Military Associations.

The Legion will soon become a thing of the past and unfortunately the only way to save it in it's present form is to have another World War which requires the entire country to become militarized, something which I fervently hope never happens again.

Why should they when they've been raised to expect the government to do all of the things the service clubs used to do?

Because service to your community and country isn't an option, it's a requirement for a vibrant self supporting society.

So, if fuck for brains won't join the legion, any other service clubs or other community giving programs, they shouldn't be surprised when at some point in the futute the society they live in denigrates into an apocalyptic vision from Blade Runner.

Eventually the Nanny Gov't is going to tax we serfs into complete poverty where they'll have all our earnings and that'll be the tipping point where society as we knew it will cease to exist. Then all the social programs that we've been paying for will suddenly become extinct but, the best part will be that there'll be no expertise, nor any service clubs or societies to pick up the slack like there was in the past all because people don't want to "participate".

Yup. It's not every man for himself out there even though YOU might choose to live that way.

I belong to numerous Service clubs that fund and support all kinds of things from charities to youth sports programs so, you assumption that I choose not to participate is, how will I put this delicately?

    Completely fucking wrong. XD
