This wouldn't be a problem if people didn't insist on building cities in desert...just saying.
If people build in deserts then they have to be willing to adapt as these folks have.
They should be distilling the treated water. That way it is completely clean - like rainwater without the dust from the atmosphere.
That's just a massive waste of energy.

Every city in the desert is headed down that same path. Phoenix is another one that's doomed. When population growth outpaces the technology to provide water for said growing population, it's doomed. Something the ancient Natives who lived in the area learned the hard way as well.
