Paul Ehrlich claims humanity is moving towards cannibalism at 'ridiculous speed'

Stanford's Paul Ehrlich, best known for his prediction of human 'oblivion' 46 years ago, says that current population trends are on a course that could leave cannibalism as one of the only options.

    No, he's old. Might need a Burgundy.

    Remember to use moist heat. There's a guy who used to live in Port Coquitlam who can share some nice sausage recipes if you want.

    Run the car wheels back and forth over him if he needs tenderizing. You might want to roll him up into a sort of "Census Taker Wellington" after that, though. Works for me.

    Prof. Ehrlich, now proudly going on into his fifth decade of being consistently wrong.

    Like a broken clock though, he's right on one thing here;

    'We are moving towards resource wars.

    We've had wars like that for most of human history (some still argue that the Iraq invasion was over resources) and as populations grow, there's no reason to believe we won't continue as we have most, if not all, of our existence.

    He has company though. Remember 4 years ago when that other great prophet, Ted Turner, said...

    Not doing it will be catastrophic. Well be eight degrees hotter in 10, not 10 but 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals."

    The greater meta that is invariably ignored is that those who predict the worst-case scenarios as "absolutely are going to happen" receive the most attention also invariably turn out to be the most woefully and inaccurately wrong. I end up wondering what it is in the human brain that leads so many to unquestioningly follow the doom prophets. A charlatan with a degree in science is still a charlatan, and none of it seems too much different that it was a thousand years ago with a bunch of dark ages twats wilfully letting themselves be convinced by the local shaman or monk that the full eclipse of the sun was actually the end of the world.

    Not even the most radical of today's climate pseudo-scientists would attempt an explanation of how Turner's prophecy is possible scientifically so yeah, only the supernatural could explain it, and the founder of CNN as Shaman seems accurate here.

    Or wait a minute maybe they really are that nuts. Does anybody know? Is there a climate model somewhere showing how a 10 degree rise in global temperature over 30 - 40 years is possible in today's state, after a 17 year climate pause of no statistical warming?

    I don't think so. Not even Michael Mann would be that crazy, or criminal.
