Key glaciers in West Antarctica are in an irreversible retreat over the next few centuries, adding at least 1.2m to sea level rise, scientists at Nasa say.
See, this is what I hate about science by press release.
"The new study has been accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union, but Nasa held a teleconference on Monday to brief reporters on the findings."
The study isn't available to scrutinize. Antarctica has been setting records in general for sea ice maximums though, so you know there is another side to this one. You just can't see it until the study actually appears.
But for now you've got some possibly politically charged representative from NASA claiming they've made observations, and based on what they think they saw the world is flooding in a couple hundred years. Quick get the children to higher ground.

Antarctica has been gaining ice. But not the west. It's not news--they've known for years that the west antarctic ice sheet has been losing mass (which was more than compensated for by ice gain in the east Antarctica.
It's not just NASA--the NSIDC has also weighed in. Of course the problem is that anyone who acknoweldges the study suddenly becomes a part of the great conspiracy.
It's a significant change. Though not somehting that will likely impact anyone in our lifetime.

There's different opinions on how much of the West and the northern plateau has been affected by how much melt when.
And there's no conspiracy. I just think the science should be published and examined before it's presented as fact.
It's a personal beef is all, but actually it's shared by more and more every time one of these questionable assertions are presented in the media as an already confirmed fact.
And Boots for God's sakes, do you honestly not know hyperbole is used in humor? I think you do, but you're hoping somebody reading is dumb enough to think being literal makes you appear clever, right?

Rather embarrassing for WUWT, since the Antarctic ice gain has been a key feature of there's of late. Just yesterday in fact they were gloating about record ice gains in the Antarctic, oh the silly warmists. And then this. Not surprising that they decided to ignore the study and shoot the messenger instead.

What are you saying? Boots is among the people I most respect and I consider his opinions to be well-formed, well-argued, and I find them to be presented with all the elan of Benjamin Disraeli himself. My goodness! Were it left to me Boots would be a Nobel laureate, a Rhodes Scholar, a Pulitzer Prize recipient, and a Victoria Cross recipient for his outstanding works on behalf of Queen & Country!

Yeah, I'm sure you've said something to that effect a millionty billion times!
'Nothing can stop retreat' of West Antarctic glaciers
That's because they're craven cowards, those limp wristed, deep south icicles. REAL ice NEVER retreats, only advances. These are obviously typical lib-tard fuc-tard Al Gore Obammie-commie glaciers and not the real deal 'cause everybody knows that man HAS ABSOLUTLEY NO EFFECT on the climate! Not possible! No way, no how! All the best scientists know that for sure!
Watts is reporting on how even NYT's Andrew Reyvkin is having problems with the Guardians re-telling of the story.
Exactly--shooting the messenger. The story is about two papers about to be published indicating that the break up of the west antarctic ice sheet is likely irrevocable. That is the story. At WUWT, they decided instead in to go after the journalist reporting the story.

Someone watched one too many Costner Films
Can't be me. I didn't make it all the way through to the end of Waterworld.
I liked The Postman though.

Nice oxymoron...
Oops, too late.
Apparently the retelling of this press release story at the Guardian is even worse.

Study: West Antarctic Melt a Slow Affair
By Andy Revkin @Revkin
A new simulation of Antarcticas most vulnerable ice sheets shows few signs of abrupt melting and sea rise.
NYT DotEarth @dotearth
Truly an abuse of the headline. Buried below the headline in the article, there is agreement with Revkin:
But the researchers said that even though such a rise could not be stopped, it is still several centuries off, and potentially up to 1,000 years away.
A lot can happen in several centuries, why even in the last couple of years Antarctic has seen record levels on Antarctic sea ice.
And the temperature isnt cooperating either:
