Something had to give, and even the greener than thou Euros are beholden to the almighty dollar.

FYI Germany lost its good sense in the post-fukushima hysteria and is building around 12 new coal fired power plants in the next few years.

Yep, all this global warming hysteria was fun and games until it meant that the Europeons had to suffer in the cold and start doing without jobs. But don't worry, they'll still hate on Canada for the oil sands and they'll still sneer at the USA for fracking our way into energy independence.

    What's to understand ?

Coal is cheap, plentiful, easy to convert, nice stable domestic energy supply.

And it's not nuclear, so the weeniegreenies can't whine.

    They probably won't even notice.

yeah coal is such an environmentally friendly energy source.....let`s get rid of the cheapest energy source that has the least impact on air and water.

On could logically suggest that rabid opposition to all energy sources, except for wind power and the uninvented technologies that still aren't going to be usable for at least another 50 to 100 years, is a sign of an ideological and puritanical mindset.

Nor is it an 'eyesore' like wind turbines apparently are nor does it have to be subsidized because normal people can't afford to put solar panels on their roofs.

Someone is always bitching about something...

What Shep said. I don't understand why they favour an environmental nightmare, when they already had plenty of nuclear capacity already up and running.

Their thirst for coal has already meant that entire towns have to me moved off coalbeds! It's not progress, it's regress!
