School Cancels Christmas Toy Drive Under Legal Pressure

BS. Poor children who aren't going to get much of anything at Christmas are being screwed out of the little they are going to get because of these diehard atheistic kooks.

Let these kids have a good a Christmas season as they can have.

Sounds like there's more to this story then is being let on here. Still if this is half as out of nowhere as the school likes to claim then shame on these idiots for not being able to see the positive side and almost total lack of religion that comes with the program.

Quite literately sounds like the logic "Well it was founded by a minister so it must be a religious program!!"

Whatevs. That school should grow a pair. Somebody threatening litigation and someone succeeding in litigation are two different things. These school admin types just seem a cowardly bunch, taken aggregately.

Lawsuits cost money. I can't blame them. Since they're already having a toy drive that's not sponsored by a religious group, just put the effort into that one.

If you lose they cost money. If you win, the other team pays. Now and then you have to take a risk.

Risk is something school administrators are not supposed to take. Also if they have legal insurance, the insurer may make them settle. Maybe this atheist group has a pretty good chance of winning, and that went into the decision to not fight it. And, as I say, they already have a secular toy drive, probably just realized it's not worth the fight.

Also, cost awards aren't automatic. In Canada it is much harder to be awarded costs if you win, the US easier. But you rarely get all your costs back.

I disagree. Back in the late 1990's I was involved with a conservative advocacy group and one of the challenges we took on involved the Elk Grove Unified School District in California. For some never-revealed reason a number of suburban school districts had made a pornographic book required reading for freshman (grade nine) high school students.

In any case, the school districts were willing to go to the mattresses to legally defend their teaching of this book until the State Attorney General (Dan Lundgren) got involved and promised felony charges against any adults who persisted in exposing minors to this material.

They took a huge risk and the ensuing lawsuits cost them millions to resolve. This case (in part) also helped lay the groundwork for the charter school movement in California so parents could get back more control of their children's education from the educrats who think that 14 year old kids should be made to learn about incestuous rape, heroin use, and etc.

Didn't work out too well for them, did it. Which is the point. I assume the administrators decided it wasn't worth the trouble, just focus on the toy drive. Maybe they even had legal advice to that effect.

Did anyone ever tell you that pornography is in the eye of the beholder? If you see "porno" where others see educational material, perhaps YOU are the pervert, not the publisher of the anatomical textbook?

It's times like this I begin to wonder if Atheist groups have the same PR people as PETA. Because this is the kind of counter-productive BS that turns people an otherwise legitimate point to be made.

Learn to pick your battles. Just because there's a religious component behind something, it doesn't mean it's inherently bad. Even if it comes from Franklin Graham.
