Mike Robinson was at 3,600 metres, just seconds away from his last jump of the day, when a second plane carrying other skydivers struck the aircraft he was in, sending them all tumbling toward the ground.

As a skydiver we have a motto:
Why land in an airplane when you have you have a perfectly good parachute.

Of course my dad, a retired airline pilot, gets quite upset at that comment ket alone when I actually do it.

If you are going to have a mid air collission, it's best if everyone is already wearing parachutes. Saves time.

Quite amazing that everyone survived. I don't recall ever seeing a pilot wearing a parachute either.

In Sky diving, at least in the Skydiving Centers I've used all the pilots wear parachutes for safety.

That's a good safe practice to go with. I've only had one strapped to my ass and the other was bolted to the seat I was sitting in.......filled with an explosive charge.

No that would have been a Ford, but in this case it was a couple P51 Mustangs and a L39 Albatross. :D

I was jump qualified back in the day and hated the night jumps. Daytime was kind of fun and the high altitude jumps were scary as hell especially when you saw someone else spinning and passing out. Never did the HALO thing - just the high altitude with a standard opening at 1,000 to 1,500 meters.

It is a lot more fun doing it as a civilian as things are organized to well HAVE FUN without any regard to any military application.

Good to hear about this incident. A recipe for disaster that ended well with no major injuries or fatalities.

    Obviously it wasn't anyone's "day".

    Well handled by all!

My first 100 jumps were all night jumps.
