I have been contemplating retirement for some time as I personally never considered the Senate to be a lifetime position, said Harb.

    Oh really?

He can collect in full immediately, said Gregory Thomas, federal director for the group. That means, according to the federation, Harb may receive $122,989 annually, fully indexed.
In the event of Harbs death, his surviving spouse would collect 60 per cent of his pension for life, which is not included in this calculation, the group said.

It's a start - now let's get rid of the other three (Brazeau, Duffy and Wallin) as well.

I'm curious if the audit will exonerate him as he believes. If it does, either there are a lot more crooks in the Senate or the rules aren't made clear. Still, I doubt that the audit will clear any of these four.

Liberals are quick to forgive liberals. Will he pay interest on that money?

What happened to his court challenge? It was just a smoke set up by the LPC to take him out of the spotlight while Wallin got hammered by the media.

Will Trudeau still want him in the caucus..lol.

His crooked mortgage financing is still under review as well.

He believes that the audit will exonerate him because it will show that 'everyone else is doing it'.

That is not a good reason to justify what is essentially corruption.

I'm not forgiving him at all. I'm glad he's retiring - so should the other three.

I'd also be in favour of making all of them pay interest on their fraudulent expenses too.

My interest in the audit is in how many more cheaters might be caught, period.

But if you want to make it a partisan issue, at least he paid his debt out of his own pocket, unlike Duffy who had to go begging to the PMO office for help. :P

The dirt on Mac Harb is still circling the bathtub. The LPC advised him to retire to take the heat off them and keep it on Harper.

He didn't pay the debt out of his own pocket. All the money he paid back was loans from other people.

Mr. Harb had previously taken out a loan from an Ottawa businessmans company to pay for legal costs. He took out another loan, of an unspecified amount, to help pay the final $180,166.17, his lawyer said.

Actually, I find it quite troubling that Harb could just write a cheque for $180K. No one in government should be so well off that they have those kinds of personal resources.

Can't get a loan without assets tho.

I guess $120k/yr for life covers it...
