B.C. study to consider liquor at parks, beach

I think this is a good idea. Many people at the beach are already drinking. No sense in making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens. I have visited many beaches where alcohol is allowed. Every beach in the Caribbean,Europe, and several in Fla. As long as they enforce a no glass policy, I have found these beaches cleaner than the no alcohol beaches. On no alcohol beaches, people tend to improperly dispose of their trash as even an empty beer can can get you in trouble. Beaches where it is legal, people are not afraid to walk to a garbage can to dispose of their empty beer cans. No glass, and enforcement of littering and obnoxious behavior could make this work. Canada has a lot less problems with the littering and behavior than the States. I say go for it.

Grew up on Vancouver Island and beer was also had at the beach, river or lake. Beer League Softball was called beer league for a reason. My wife and I would enjoy sitting on the beach south of Campbell River with a redneck party pack (6 pack and bottle of wine) with a small fire watching the cruise ships sail past. Sitting in a tube floating down the Cowichan River with a cold can in hand was a great way to spend a Saturday.

I like the idea and fully support it as long as the no glass rule is applied. Though most are responsible and take their garbage with them there is always that small percentage that enjoy the sound of breaking glass.

Beer/Wine sold at any Retail outlet would be preferable.

I agree wiht Sando. The alcohol in Vancouver is stupidly expensive, and they don't even chill the beer at the liquor store.

I can't see it happening though. The line-up of Bizzies fretting about it is just too long. Don't believ what you hear about the laid-back left coast. There is a strong streak of puritanism here.

Doesn't help the case when we prefer to level our cities over a hockey game.

I'm torn on this. Booze in public spaces is nothing new, so are we simply caving to the inevitable vice enforcing bylaws? Secondly, how will this affect the retard factor in our public parks and beaches? If I thought fir a second it would only increase the number of couples enjoying a glass of merlot and cucumber sandwiches if be all for it. Instead I forsee a lot more twenty somethings with 2-4s of shitty beer acting like fuckheads in public.

I go to the local you brew here that does small batch brews that are as good as I get from a micro brewery at a fraction of the cost.

Distinctly recalling when my 20 something friends and I were exactly those people you don't want camped next to you.... and the 2 4s were Hi-test because 6% was a good reason to drink Hi-test.
