Latvia is set to become the 18th country to use the euro after being approved for membership by the European Commission.

    Normally I'd agree. But for Latvia this is more about securing themselves from a resurgent Russia than it is about their love for Brussels.

    Securing themselves from a re-emergent Russia is a very real motivation for them, seeing how they were "incorporated" into the Soviet Union initially.

    Fairly certain though that the rest of Europe wouldn't do much more to help the Baltics if the Russians marched in tomorrow than when the Russians did the exact same thing in 1940.
