The Trudeau campaign has boasted enlisting 150,000 supporters, but by Garneau�s calculation, only about 70,000 of those have registered to vote...
It�s not just a Liberal phenomenon � in last year�s NDP race that chose Tom Mulcair as leader, only about 65,000 party members voted out of a total 131,000 eligible to cast ballots.

I would surmise it's not great for a party to have less than 50% of eligible voters (who one would think should be committed to the political process) look interested enough to do something with their vote.
It doesn't translate well to a party trying to build up some momentum and some interest from the general public.
The Liberals will have to count on people being more engaged as a general election looms closer. For now it appears to be more fizzle than sizzle.

Underestimating Trudeau--that was the mistake that Brazeau made.
I would assume that the Conservatives are not underestimating him.
He's got star appeal, which is great in an election. He's well-positioned to become a shiny new toy for people tired of the same old stuff and tired of a ruling party (as they eventually get).
The Canadian electorate is not so sophisticated that they can resist change for the sake of change. And I wouldn't be fooled into believing that just because the Liberals sank to being the third party that they are down for the count.
Look at how low the Conservatives sank after Mulroney.
It's quite likely that under JT the Liberals will at least regain Official Opposition status from the moribund NDP, and depending on how things play out in the next couple of years it's not beyond belief that the Liberals could unseat the Conservatives.
Trudeau gives them a much better shot at that than any of the other "also ran's". The Liberals face accusations that they're looking for victory through celebrity. They're smart enough to realize that it could just be their Ace-in-the-hole, if they play it right.

I didn't jump on OTI. I jumped on Sun News, which is really just the Conservatvie Party's marketing wing.
