A local dive team did not find any bodies during a search of the capsized Miss Ally off the coast of Nova Scotia, RCMP announced Saturday evening.

    Brave yes, one might argue dumb as well. For all of the ire that occurred here when the much much larger and capable HMS Bounty sailed in less severe weather, there's been no questioning of why these guys opted to sail their 18 m halibut boat in 6 m seas to make a profit.

    Sorry for the family, but this is the type of stupidity is what drives me nuts.

    Lots of economic pressure on these guys, I bet. And I would also bet a degree of "manliness" ie standing in the community about being willing to take risks. Wouldn't surprise me if the wives were part of this subtle pressure, while of course asserting they don't want their guys to take risks. But if he plays it too safe, he'll get some digs from her for that. Basically I think this is primeaval, men always had this pressure on them to bring home the bacon and take a degree of risk. In logging I saw all sorts of stupidity, people willing to cut corners for production and proud of taking risks. Never seemed worth it to me, but then I was just paid a wage.
