Despite squandering numerous goalscoring chances, Canada downed a mysteriously undermanned Cuba 3-0 on Friday night at Toronto's BMO Field to remain on course in its World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Cubans dressed just 11 players for the game, meaning their bench was empty. Down the field, Canada had 10 substitutes dressed.
Pressed on the issue after the game, Cuban coach Alexander "Chandler" Gonzalez was initially reluctant to discuss anything but soccer, however, he admitted through an interpreter that some players had left the team.
Gonzalez said he had a squad of 15 players when he left Cuba and that four had since left the team. One of those was sick, he added without elaborating.
I was at the game. I had to feel sorry for the Cubans knowing what had happened to their team plus the temperature was almost at zero (I'm not sure if Cuban thermometers even go down to zero). Then again it was funny as hell when people in the stands were yelling "Hack the bone Canada, they have no subs! Hack the bone!". Still a good result for Canada who desperately needed the win and the number of goals to stay in this tournament. Cuba has yet to score a goal in this tournament, let alone earn a point.

News on Monday... 4 Cubans defect to Canada
Nothing but a load of neo-con misinformation! LIES! LIES!
News on Monday... 4 Cubans defect to Canada
Wrong, it was Friday and supposedly only 3 defected, the other was apparently sick.
If Canada gets to the World Cup, I'll be watching. If not, I'll ignore it as I have all the rest since Canada played there.
