The radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza must be deported �immediately� after losing a last-ditch appeal against his extradition to the US to face terror charges.
Abu Hamza and four other suspects including Babar Ahmad, a British man who, as an alleged terrorist fundraiser, has been in prison without trial for the past eight years, challenged the home secretary�s decision to deport them. They argued they would face inhumane conditions in US prisons.
These claims were dismissed on Friday by Sir John Thomas, one of England and Wales� most senior judges, and Mr Justice Ouseley.
Their decision follows a European Court of Human Rights decision that the suspects� human rights would not be violated by deportation to the US.
�We have?.?.?.?concluded that each of the claimants� applications for permission to apply for judicial review or for a reopening of the statutory appeals be dismissed. It follows that their extradition to the United States of America may proceed immediately,� Sir John wrote in his judgment published on Friday.
