Canada's premiers and territorial leaders say they stand to lose almost $36 billion in health transfers over a 10-year period if Ottawa proceeds with its disputed plan to alter how it calculates the payments to the provinces and territories.

So much for the Harperites whining about the big bad Liberals reducing the deficit on the backs of the provinces.....

Liberals should be praising Harper for this, just like they did when Chretein and company did. But we know they will condemn him, forgetting that they praised the same action in the past.

    Except they're doing it backwards.

Total spending on health care in Canada reached roughly $191.6 billion in 2010, up by $9.5 billion (5.2 per cent) from 2009, according the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

They increase spending, helping to create the deficit, then claw it back later to reduce the deficit. One step forward, two steps back.

    Poor management.

Thanks for proving that you aren't even sure what your point was. Creating a deficit to justify cuts, is not prudent leadership.

So...you are saying the Libs and the Connies are the same. What was all the fuss about?

Love the slant Beaver put on this one, changing the title to suit his views.

"Ottawa cutting health funding by $36B over 10 years: Premiers"

How fast would you lefties be foaming at the mouth if one of us evil CPC people did that?

They likely wouldn't notice because they wouldn't be paranoid enough to check.

Does he work at CTV? If you post links here, you'll quickly find out they change the titles, and update the articles regularly. You'll be accused of this regularly too for not including updates in your quotes from the article.

When the article was posted, the title wasn't the same as what was on the website. Period.

You're partly right and partly wrong.

Yes, Chretien did this too, but there are two very key differences.

Chretien got into office with a $30+ billion deficit and was FORCED to do this. I doubt Chretien would have cut any social program if he hadn't had to. The military sure, but that's a different point altogether.

The other is that Harper promised during the last election that he wouldn't cut health spending when pressed during the debate and my the media.

So Curtman is also correct, he kept his promise not to cut health care this year, but may cut it in the coming years. My guess is if the economy doesn't turn around, it will see cuts.
