    I thought this was interesting...

Pakistan shuns physicist linked to ?God particle? because of religious beliefs
The pioneering work of Abdus Salam, Pakistan?s only Nobel laureate, helped lead to the apparent discovery of the subatomic ?God particle? last week. But the late physicist is no hero at home, where his name has been stricken from school textbooks.

Related: What is the Higgs-boson and why the hunt for the god particle matters

Praise within Pakistan for Salam, who also guided the early stages of the country?s nuclear program, faded decades ago as Muslim fundamentalists gained power. He belonged to the Ahmadi sect, which has been persecuted by the government and targeted by Taliban militants who view its members as heretics.

Their plight ? along with that of Pakistan?s other religious minorities, such as Shiite Muslims, Christians and Hindus ? has deepened in recent years as hardline interpretations of Islam have gained ground and militants have stepped up attacks against groups they oppose. Most Pakistanis are Sunni Muslims.
    ...

So when is the US going to bomb-the-sh*t out of them in the war-on-terror?

Islam once upon a time was a leader in science not so much these days. We had our dark ages Islam appears to be having their dark ages at least in this portion of Pakistan.

I think the Iranians are fairly well educated and cosmopolitan compared to the Talistanis

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. For example look up the most prestigious academic prize, the Annual Abdus Salam Award given out in Pakistan. Now I wouldn't exactly call it shunning the man. Recently I saw and adv for an ABC show where it was mentioned Pakistan has a population of 4 million, when its actually close to 180 !

As for the minority situation that is somewhat true, but that is also changing, mainly because of the recent phenomena of a free media. But right now Pakistan is in the middle of a major internal political upheaval and the common man has much bigger issues than the God particle. So excuse them if many arn't looking that up. The ones in the know are aware of the Pakistani connection.

Now you've had a taste of why people like myself are not so impressed with the American mainstream media. Fact checking is not such a big deal with those folks. Wouldn't surprise me much if the ABC production team thought that Pakistan was a suburb of London.

What do you mean "when"? Obama's Kill List isn't for decoration.

Also blame people who think that just because the particle that gives matter mass is nicknamed the "God Particle" means its existence disproves religion.

Why take the time to check facts when there's an agenda to adhere too?

I post this example because CBS should have known better.

...Meanwhile, India is a little miffed that Dr. Bose isn't discussed more, as the discoverer of the Boson which bears his name.

Can't please everybody, most of the time.
