And the cycle of German-Jewish relations begins again.

who in their right mind would NOT consider genital mutilation some form of assault? Religion makes ordinary people say and do extra-ordinarily wicked and stupid things.

I dunno... my son was snipped. Not for religious reasons at all, as my wife is contemptous of most religion and I'm pretty much apathertic. To be honest I'm not even sure why we did it. Tradition I guess. Possibly cause most ladies seem to prefer it and I'd like to think my son will be a bit of a ladies man. ;)

    But was he 4?

You'd think one would do that within 2 weeks of birth (or whatever is normal, I have 2 girls and am one myself, PLUS it is not tradition in The Netherlands) and not at age 4...

I cant remember how old he was but it was a while ago, and he's only gonne be 9 months next week.

Completely agree that if you're gonna do it, do it before he's old enough to remember it.

While no intelligent person is denying the Holocaust I think German society is starting to get out of the mind set that every single breathing German is responsible for what happened in WW II.

Germany is a very different society and people who were weren't born then should not be made to feel that they were responsible.

This ruling by the courts indicates that they won't be intimidated by the ghosts of the pasts. They are doing what they think is right for the people living now and in the future.

Banning circumcision on Jewish males is no more offensive to me than banning female genital mutilation on Islamic girls or how some countries ban ear piercing or tattoos on children.

If they want to do it at age 18 and of their own free will then let them. But a secular state has the right to proscribe physical modification in children while still respecting the religious liberties of adults.

Take the religious conontations out of the argument and there is evidence that male circumcision is actually healthy and not a pagan form of mutiliation like some people want you to believe.

I had a friend who had to be circumcised in his 30's for medical reasons and he said it was the most painful think he'd ever endured, he also cursed his parents up and down for not having it done when he was a child.

    Go figure.

It's been a while since we've had the "cut/uncut" discussion.
I wonder if we'll all agree on which one is best this time.

I'm voting for "creatively cut", like with a fringed edge or something.

Genital mutilation on children isn't cricket, male or female. Just my opinion.

Now if you're a responsible adult and you want to lop your foreskin off, get a penis ring, tattoo on it... well... who am I to judge?

After I was snipped, it became part of my timpani set.

I had a friend that had to have his appendix removed, and others than needed their tonsils removed. Should we conduct those operations at birth as well, just in case?

Why you would want to make the first few days of your son's life start off with a painful operation sans anesthetic is beyond me. Other than for pagan reasons.
