They had a good run last year. It's hard to do it two years running these days, I notice. It would hurt more if I were back home, but, on the plus side, I don't have to get up at 5:00 in the morning to catch games now.
I'll probably root for Willie Mitchell and LA now.

I think it's the same curse that Detroit had some years ago. A fantastic team during the regualr season but with very unreliable goaltending when it came to playoff time.

I honestly don't think it's the goal tending, but rather a lack of grit that plagues Vancouver. Their "rough and tough" guys just aren't.

Goaltending was the least of the worries of the Canucks, yet all the blame gets thrown on Luongo.
Cory Schneider has the highest save percentage of all goalies during the playoffs ( 3 games), I'd say they were in a good position had the rest of the team played up to their capabilities.
Even the combined goaltending stats are middle of the pack.(.925)
Most importantly, the team is tied for last with San Jose when it comes to goals per game with only 8 goals during the series.
Well, when you can barely score goals, it's going to come back to bite you in the ass...I might not like the Canucks very much (but far more than either Boston or Philly ), but I still would have liked to see a Canadian team finally win the Cup again.
Maybe they can get some help up front when they trade Luongo...

8 goals in 5 games just doesn't cut it. Schneids is a decent goaltender true. Luongo is the problem. He's a very streaky goaltender. When he's on, he's excellent, but when he's off, he sucks worse than non-alcohol beer. And the last two seasons tended to show that Luongo is NOT a playoff goaltender. I'm not putting the blame on Schneider. He was put in a tough spot after his league leading team was down 2 games after the first two games in Vancouver. And despite the team appearing to have more confidence with him in net, penalties and poor defensive coverage cost them dearly.
8 goals in 5 games doesn't cut it only when you don't have a goalie that can make the clutch saves. Look at the Rangers/Sens series. Hardly a goal scoring affair there, in part because the amazing goaltending.

Respectfully disagree.
Luongo had a save percentage of over .910 last year and 4 shutouts in the play-offs and considering they've won the Presidents Trophy 2 years running and went to game 7 of the Finals last season it's hard to say he's not a play-off goalie.
The goalies are good. The coaches are good. All goalies have slumps, just like players do.
Penalties, poor coverage and a lack of scoring is what sunk the Canucks. Leave the goalies alone.

Holy Crap!!!......
I agree with OTI!!!!!...imagine that.... ......
Neither Bobby Lou nor Cory lost this series for the Nucks. A lazy defence, (primarily Edler for the entire series and Bieksa in games one and two), and several of their goal scorers went ice age cold around the net. Stupid penalties didn't help either, but a quiet powerplay for most of the series was a huge hit.
The tenders did their job. Bobby Lou did not loose games 1 and 2 for the Nucks, the other 18 guys did. It's always easy to blame the goalie, but more times then not, it was a bad play well out in front of them that resulted in a goal being scored.
Maybe it's more that the Kings won than the Canucks lost. A Darryl Sutter-coached team in first year with him behind the bench is incredibly difficult to play against. Sutter's still fresh, hasn't had time yet to get everyone on his own team pissed off at him, and initially his players tend to buy into his ideas with extreme vigour. If the Canucks had drawn another team that didn't have the second-best defensive record in the league this past season, like Sutter's Kings did, you could be well on your way into the second round. It's just bad luck that you ran into the hockey equivalent of a strangling octopus/brick wall of a defensive strategy. If anything the Canucks should really just blame themselves for not studying the videotapes from the first round in 2004, when the Darryl Sutter-coached Calgary Flames did the exact same thing to them that the Kings just did this year.
I'll probably root for Willie Mitchell and LA now.
Oh well. Go Liverpool, May 6 FA Cup Final!
