It would appear that the Vancouver Canucks will go forward in net with Cory Schneider next season, but trying to move Roberto Luongo would make for a fascinating offseason.
If the Canucks manage somehow to win the series, we'll see Luongo between the pipes again. Just can't have him in goal for a series loss and kill whatever marketability there is for him.
Take a look at his contract. That's what's gonna kill his markability not a bad performance.
I really think the Canucks are going to have to trade Schnider as much as they don't want to because of Luongo's huge, "restrictive" contract which will be to bad because he should be their #1 and not Luongo.
We all know we're going to lose Schneider in the off-season. Another team will benefit big-time in acquiring him too as he deserves to be the #1 goaltender somewhere. Hopefully the Canucks at least get a player or two in the deal that can score some goals or man the blueline to prevent too many ops on our net.
The problem is no other team is gonna be willing to give anything away to get Schneider simply because they know the Canucks can't afford to keep him. At best I can see Gillis getting a couple of higher end draft picks for him and that's about it.
And here's why.
Luongos cap hit is a middle range $5.333 million, but heres the salary left on that 12-year deal.
2012-13 to 2017-18, $6.714 million
2018-19$3.382 million.
2019-20$1.618 million.
2020-2022$1 million.
So six years at $6.714 million which runs him to 39 years old.
Just take a look at the end date for the 6.714 million dollar portion of his contract and then look at the end date overall.
After looking at this contract it's pretty apparent Gillis was a hell of a player agent but a lousy GM.
"Zipperfish" said Canucks made a solid cup run last year. This year they got knocked off first round. Not that uncommon after a long playoff run the year before.
Talking to FOG about hockey is like talking to Eeyore.
Can't handle the truth? Your stuck with an overage goalie that's gonna cost you any chance you had for the cup till at least 2022.
I may be a jackass like you stated, but your inane wit is only precluded by your complete lack of hockey knowledge and blind adoration for a team that's rapidly going in the wrong direction.
Oh well at least you won't have to worry about your fans rioting again till around the time Luongo's contract ends.

Sorry, I didn't mean the Eeyore comment as a jackass comparison. More like the fact that jyou're the kind of guy that's never got anything good to say about anything. That's why it sucks it to be you.
The Canucks are my team. And the Jets too since they came back. The Canucks lost. It sucks. But it's not like a base my life's future happiness on their fortunes. They've consistently made the playoffs for years, and that's awesome, because I love playoff hockey. They made a good deep run last year--as deep as you can get and not win, actually. Teams rarely do that two years in a row.

Maybe not so restrictive...
In his final media availability of the season in Vancouver on Tuesday, Luongo told reporters he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if general manager Mike Gillis asked him to.

Apology accepted and please accept mine.
I watched the TSN tonight and Luongo is certainly saying the right things. He's willing to waive his no trade clause if they can find a team to trade him to and he said he understands that Schneider is likely going to be a #1 goalie for a long time.
Now with this all said it still comes down to his contract and the only way I can see him getting traded is if the Canucks are willing to eat some of his contract. If they do that they should still have enough left over to pay Schneider a good salary for the future.
And I understand your passion for the Canucks, I'm like that with the Hab's who have bigger problems than players like Luongo. They've got Gomez and Gionta who combined for a paltry 26 points between them and cost the Hab's $12,357,143.00 to do it. Which breaks down to $475,274.43 per point which is terrifying when you think about it.
So don't worry about the Canucks because they'll still be a good team no matter who's in goal and the Hab's will still be paying to non entities millions of dollars not to produce.

I think Luongo's contract is attractive and many teams will be offering players to the Canucks if he becomes available.

That applies to a great majority of Canuck fans!

Sportdesk (TSN) reported this morning that Luongo is going to put together a list of teams he'd bewilling to be traded to.
But will those teams be willing to have him at the price it will cost?
