Norway's prison terms are "pathetic," confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik declared Wednesday in court, claiming the death penalty or a full acquittal were the "only logical outcomes" for his massacre of 77 people.
"DanSC" said He's right. Norway's prison terms are pathetic.
I think he'll get life without parole, even if it takes an act of parliment.
I'm thinking the most he will get is 14 years. Paradoxically, the fact that Norway cannot affirmatively deal with Breivik would seem to underline his point that Norway is ill equipped to deal with most any threat to the existence of the country.

Methinks whatever Vikings lived in Norway crossed the Atlantic and settled in Minnesota (and a few in Alberta.)
even if he gets the maximum penalty, what kind of Norwegian prison will he serve it in....one of those special villages on an island where he can garden, sunbathe and go for strolls through the woods?
"gonavy47" said Give him what he fears the most. A life term in solitary confinement. Where he can rot in anonimity. Alone and forgotten.
Yep. Executing him just gives him what he wants - make him a martyr in his eyes.
Norway does have the provision to jail somebody for life. That's what he'll get. Even if it's in pieces - ie a 21 yr term that's extended ad infinitum.
I'm all for prisoner rehabilitaion specially seeing the rate of reoffenders going back to prison, but Norway needs to have somekind of tough prisons for violent criminsls. As at the end of the day its suppose to be a punishment not a vist to summer camp.
If you plan to let the prisoner out at some point, making it a hellhole just means there's no rehabilitation and he'll be much more likely to do it again. You don't rehabilitate somebody by abusing them.
Thist guy I don't think can be rehabilitated, and I don't think the Norwegians would want to try - they'll lock him up for life, in the decent prisons they have. Not summer camp, but not Abu Graib either.
Thanks for bring those terrible abuses of human rights to our attention, DD. Those Norwegian prisons are horrible! How cruel to expect someone like Mr. Breivik to suffer in a place like that all of the rest of his life!
