It's only the first round of the NHL playoffs, but fans and pundits are already deeply divided over a dramatic uptick in on-ice violence that many put at the feet of one man: league disciplinary czar Brendan Shanahan.
So much for high hopes that Shanahan would make a real difference. Of course he is under immense pressure by certain team's management and owners to maintain the status quo - that however is no excuse for letting goons and dancing bears get away with harming good players.
I guess the higher viewership for the Philly-Pittsburgh series is the skillful play and fine goaltending of both teams.
It appeals to the lowest common denominator, the knuckle-dragger's, etc.
It's shitty hockey and embarrassing to watch.
Raffi "The Crippler" Torres for Playoff MVP.
And where was this outcry against him when he was a Canuck last year?
