World powers seek quick progress over Iran nuke program

Giving Iran another chance at diplomacy, deeply skeptical Obama administration officials return to nuclear negotiations this weekend looking for quick progress -- or at least enough hope to hold off urgent calls from Israel for military action.

"They assert that their program is purely peaceful. They point to a fatwa that the supreme leader has issued against the pursuit of nuclear weapons. We want them to demonstrate clearly in the actions they propose that they have truly abandoned any nuclear weapons ambition."

And American intelligence agencies have openly stated they can't find anything that says Iran has lied. In fact, as one point Geoge Bush told Mohamed ElBaradei, the former Director General of the IAEA, "We really appreciate your work in Iran, because we don't understand what is going on there."

Ahead of the talks, chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili vowed to present new initiatives, without specifying what they might be. Iranian officials have suggested scaling back on uranium enrichment while continuing to make nuclear fuel. It's unlikely such an offer would satisfy the demands of the U.S. and its fellow negotiators -- Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia

Typical, Iran has been promising things like this since the whole issue started, the nations that already have nuclear technology seem quite willing to destroy a state or two if it means that only they can be allowed to enrich uranium on any level. Iran has been fucked over by the West before when they cut off the supply of HEU, forcing the Tehran reactor to start running on LEU, only recently have they been able to return it to HEU use.

But the president also will need some signs of a possible breakthrough to show Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he is to fundamentally change the Israeli calculus. And unless the Iranians break from the mould set at previous gatherings, he will be hard pressed to do so.

Netanyahu won't be happy unless Iran is either a smoking crater or tied face down on a bed so he can fuck them in the ass on a whim. Netanyahu is little more than a little warmonger hell bent on starting a major war in the region so he can prove he was right to threaten to start a war even if it starts because of him.

She suggested that Iran end its production of highly enriched uranium, which at 20 per cent can more easily be transformed into bomb-making material. She also urged Tehran to ship out its existing stockpile of this uranium to another country and open up its facilities to "constant inspections and verifications."

Like the 1200kg of LEU they offered to send to Turkey for 120kg of HEU? The enriched Uranium that Iran has been legally allowed to have under the NPT which was removed after a unilateral action? What about the inspections they have been becoming increasingly willing to allow in? The same inspections that were only closed off after the west decided that evasiveness was the same as being caught setting off the nuke and started sanctions every time Iran blinked?

20% in a nuke? Yeah, I guess you can, if you want a bomb that will make Little Boy look like the Tsar Bomba.
