We restrict women's athletic contests to natural-born women; why not beauty pageants?

I don't see anything gross here.

Miss Universe had the opportunity to do something special, I say, but probably crumbled under advertiser pressure. That or Trump is making an ass of himself, as usual.

There's no restriction when it comes to enhancements. You have to be unmarried and stay unmarried, never been married, not have kids, and be between 15 and 27. You don't have to be beautiful either, or smart. I do not understand how she could have been rejected if she meets the requirements.

What do the rules stipulate? Pretty sure that when they were written, no one even dreamed of transgendered queens taking part in it.

While I can agree that a beauty pageant for women should be restricted to those with 2 X chromosones, the rules do not state that. They cannot discriminate against the candidate because 'she' has under gone transgender and cosmetic surgery OR they would have to put that into the rules and all the other candidates would be subject to disqualification if they have had any type of cosmetic surgery. Based on past practices it would appear as if she should be able to compete.

If beauty pageants wanted to truly pick the most beautiful women, the rules should be written to exclude any contestent that has had 'surgical enhancements'.

Which would get my vote. "Fake" and "Beauty" don't go together, in my book.

I think they should raise the bar on the intelligence thing a bit  . I honestly don't know how some of those girls make it through a day. Besides, there's nothing sexier than an intelligent women.

Absolutely agree (and good post btw). Cosmetic surgery and enhancements should be frowned upon. One of the larger aspects of Miss Universe is to serve as a role model, what are we telling our children when we pick a lady with fake boobs, a fresh nose job, botoxed lips and tummy tuck?
