Considering the fact that BC is several times more expensive to live in than Saskatchewan, how is it right that they make almost the exact same?

Why should that be a factor? I work for CN and people in Vancouver who do the same job as I do make the same money, despite the fact that where I live the cost of houseing is 1/10 of Vancouvers.

Wage parity isn't a right. That's life. Sometimes people in similar jobs in different areas of the Country make more or less money.

I take it everyone should go on strike, because BC does not pay that well at all, compared to AB or SK. Taxes are different too.

Kids are grading their own work. They do not get a report card. There are hardly any extra curriculars. No dances. All the things that make school FUN are cancelled. And we parents get to watch commercials on TV (wonder what they cost?) telling us that they are on strike because it is for the children.

They can move... you know, vote with their feet if they don't like it.

people seem to forget that education is a provincial issue. What Ontario pays it teachers should have absolutely no bearing on what Manitoba, New Brunswick or any other province pays theirs. If you don't like the salary being offered go elsewhere. The shortage will eventually drive wages up, as the provincial governments try and attract teachers.

Money isn't everything. My wife and I have interviewed for and received job offers in the ME(UAE) where we'd make double what we make here....however we decided the current politics and culture were not 'optimal'.

You get what you pay for.

A teacher can't live on $70K/yr?
The mechanic that makes sure you get to work safely makes 2/3rd of that. Also only has 10, 15 paid days off/yr. Just sayin.

My uncle is a teacher in Surrey. Makes $80k/yr. Does not get paid in July and August (is also not working in July and August). He was complaining about that.

The mechanic also doesn't spend all weekend grading papers, making tests, doing report cards, and working to organize school sports. They also don't have to deal with parents mad about their children's report cards or defending little Johnny because there is no way he would have hit that boy. Mechanics more often than not have their interactions with people limited to "what seems to be the problem?" and "you owe X".

Not really.
The boss does expect you to stay on top of your trade in your spare time.

Once again, kids grade their own papers, tests are remakes of last years, not every teacher is in organizing school sports and A LOT of parents are helping with that. Voluntarily.

Two months is a long time to go without money, I know that in Sask they can ask to get their salary summer payments in one lump sum or to get their cheques as regularly as before. The only difference is that payment is spread over 12 months instead of 10.
