Heavy snow and a severe cold snap killed at least 36 people across eastern Europe and many areas were under emergency measures as schools closed down, roads became impassible and power supplies were cut off.

    Wait.....-20 and people are dying? I think that is a sign you need to fix some infrastructure.

    As long as he's not a drinker and passes out in the cold, which seems fairly common amongst the easterners

    People die from hypothermia here when the temps drop below +10C

    When I was in Manchester, -2C would freeze a brace of Grannies a night. Poor insulation and crappily built houses.

    Same here.

    People die of this every year. As they do in summer when it gets too hot.

    As for "fixing the infra-structure"... Maybe start in your own country. When we don't have power outages anymore in Canada because of the weather, then you can come back.

    School closures were reported in northern Greece, where temperatures of -16C (3F) were recorded.

    Snowfalls were recorded as far south as southern Italy and Corsica, where at least 20cm of snow covered the centre of the Mediterranean island.

    What is telling is that this is being reported at all. In Soviet times people died from the cold, too. It's just that it didn't get reported.
