Mississippians are voting on a measure that could prompt a new national fight over abortion by declaring that life begins at fertilization.

It seems, almost daily, that the USA is getting nuttier and nuttier.

Politicians will be trying to win over very very very young potential voters soon.

I never really understood the need for large scale abortion in the first place. With the rare exceptions of rape or endangering the life of the mother all of them can easily be prevented by simply not having sex until ready to deal with the consequences or using the proper protection.

That's certainly the ideal. But contraception fails, and people do get careless. So what do you want to do, force women in those cases to carry the child to term?

I dont think you could class American, or Canada that matter, as a place having large scale abortions.

If everyone made sound decisions regarding their naughty bits, we wouldnt have to worry about STDs, Adultry, Rape, Incest ect.

Defining a fertilized egg as a person, is like calling, a carton of eggs a dozen chickens.

As far as I am concerned nothing is living until it can survive on its own, by that I mean a mature baby out of the womb with the ability to breath and eat a "normal" diet.
While I am sure there are many who disagree with me, I prefer the way we were 60 years ago where we didnt try to rationalize every little thing we did and just enjoyed living, and accepting loss was part of living.

If so, when a fertilized egg dies, we'll need to organize the wake and funeral. :(

It is not that hard to make a conscious choice to not have sex until you found a person you have decided to stay with, I made that choice long ago and have stuck to it.

Holy shit - so as long as the baby is breastfeeding, killing it would still be an abortion? To me you sound as nuts as the Mississippians, just in the other direction.

Breastmilk is a normal diet for a baby. I don't see him say a baby has to sit up straight and eat with knife and fork.
