Canadian and Mexican travellers to the U.S. are once again going to have to swallow a $5.50 tax if they enter the country by air or sea.

Sounds like I'll be driving away from $5.50 at the gas-pump right before I cross back home.

Canadian tourism should be sending the US a thank you card.

Hell, you think that's bad, my dentist charges like $700 for a root canal.

Oh, and by the way, this isn't a tariff. A tariff is a tax on imports. Tourism is an export. This isn't even really a tax. It's more like an entry fee. Hell, it's really just a toll to cross the bridge. I'm pretty certain that such a user fee would be perfectly compliant with NAFTA, were they just to call it such. But I'm still pumpin' and fleein' somewhere in downtown Buffalo.

I'm not a fan of this new fee on visitors coming by plane (and sea?), but until it is repealed I hope Canada enacts a matching policy.

No let's give them $5.50 to come visit. Then watch them scream we're "Illegally subsidizing tourism".

My wife carries a British passport and has had to pay a $6 visa fee which expires every 3 months. Sound like a similar fee except it's every visit?

Well, once Keystone is built we could add a "tarrif" for every barrel of oil sent to the US
