Scientists are warning officials negotiating a global treaty on mercury that banning the deadly chemical completely would be dangerous for public health because of the chemical's use in vaccines.

It sounds like most mercury contamination is from industrial pollution. A stronger control on pollution would be more effective.

The title is quite misleading. It should be "Banning mercury in vaccines is not an option".

I don't agree on the premise. Are there better conservation agents than mercury available that does the same thing ? If yes, use them. If not, keep mercury for now. That simple. We all know that the 'autism from vaccine' thing was an hoax now. Like Guy said, eat your fish.
