This is part of a settlement with the Equal Employment Opportuities Commision so by law Hertz is correct.

This become a Labour issue that perhaps they can negotiate.

i'm given to understand they pray 5 times a day. How long do the prayers take?
That can take a fair chunk of time out of a system not designed for it.

Even if the prayer was a total of 5 minutes in a day, multiply that by all of the drivers. (If you allow it for some, you must allow it for all)

We get this at work all the time:

"Why are you outside smoking?"

"It only takes 5 minutes..."

"5 minutes x 5 guys x how many times a day?"

"Uh, I didn't realize that..."

"Get back to effin work and smoke on your breaks!"

I dunno about this one. I think accommodation could be made here.

I also think that immigrants from Muslim countries in the West also need to realise that our world doesn�t revolve around the Five Pillars of Islam.

A bit of a compromise from both sides of this dispute would go a long way.

Accommodations have been made, it's the ones not going by the agreement who have been suspended, I can't see they have a leg to stand on here.

Not doing any favours by being the sanctimonious atheist here, you can shove your secularism down as many throats as you like but the reality is people will not stop having faith because it offends your secularism. Like it or not even the west have nations which have their roots in religion and there always be a little give and take wheter it be, muslims, jews or even the believers of the flying spagehetti monster.

As for the issue at hand from what is stated I don't see anything wrong with the suspension. Breaks have been alloted and rules laid down, so use them.

This is not about a religion at all. It is about sticking to the rules.
If they had clocked out and in, they would still be working. Simple, no?

They are saying "HEY!! MY religion tells me I need to pray, and you can't stop me, I will pray when I have to, and there are no rules for me to follow".

Well, dear, there are. Clock out, clock in. They have been accommodated. Don't protest when YOU don't stick to the rules (fuck up) and tell me to respect your religion.

I wouldn't go work in a slaughterhouse and say my religion prevents me from doing my duties. It's not up to my employer to accommodate my beliefs, it's up to me to find employment that fits my beliefs.

Like I said sanctimonious athiest, I can say exactly the same thing for your atheism and secularism aswell.
