OTTAWA God Save the Queen... a space on your embassy wall. That's the latest directive from the Conservative government, which has been pushing for greater respect for the monarchy in federal institutions.

We've had portraits of the Queen in hockey arenas for god knows how many decades, but only just NOW in our embassies?

The mouth breathing republican droolers will all be indignant over this.

Yeah, I'm surprised by this too. This wasn't already happening?

More than surprised, I'm kinda shocked.

Huh? That's not mandatory from the day of opening?
EVERY government building (including court rooms, embassies, consulates, town halls etc etc) should have some portrait of the Queen on the wall.

My guess is they were there once upon a time, but were removed by the government of the day.

Anyhow, I'm surprised how many diplomats seem to find our head of state a liability, and aren't shy about saying so.

I wonder if everybody will still think the same when we start seeing portraits of King Charles.

That's the way it should be.

I'm also surprised this wasn't happening. However, I was once confused when I saw a portrait of the President at the American Embassy. I thought, "Why is a portrait of a temp on the wall?"

    Yep.
I am not a fan of his, but once he becomes head of state, we will have to respect him and his position.

from everything that I've read about him he's a man of principle who has fairly strong opinions and has been very hands on in running his own lands.

A Monarch is not supposed to have an opinion. That's not what he is there for. He is there to represent the country, not to vent his own opinions.
