A tragedy for Mr. Layton. I hope he manages to get through this and continue his work. It'll be tough for the NDP, too. Jack Layton's personalal connection with voters as a significant contributor to the NDP's success in the recent election.

As much as I can't stand the mans politics, I do wish him a complete recovery.

After seeing the video of the press conference, I don't think so. Sad to say it, but I've seen too many people with late stages of cancer, and his voice, the gauntness of his face all tell me that he's not going to last very long.

If his prostate cancer has spread to his liver, lungs or bones - he might have 6 months. Sad. Althought I intensly dislike politicians in general, it's not a nice way to go.

They keep saying this cancer is unrelated. I take it it is not a spread of his prostate cancer...

    Good Luck, Mr. Layton.

Sorry to hear that he is battling cancer, and by the sounds of things losing his personal war.. I have to wonder why he would ask a nooby doo MP to replace him as leader though....does he not trust the old guard MPs to follow through on his plans?

Yep. This is when we need to remember that he's a human being with a family and friends, and not just a politician.

lets hope he is able to get back by the time parliment opens. Do not need harper to continue his "self-dictatorship" without someone watching him like Mr. Layton or Mr. Rae.

This is a respectful "get well Jack" thread. If you want to turn it into an "I hate Harper thread" standby to be called idiot... repeatedly.

    Idiot.
