Which means he would be declared mentally insane, which would bring him to a mental health institution especially for the criminals, for life.
In The Netherlands, and I am pretty sure in a lot of European countries, you FIRST go to jail, and THEN to a mental health institution, if the judge orders so.

But under Canadian law, as far as we know now, he would be very unlikely to be found not guilty because of a mental disorder. Tho after that case with the doc in Quebec, all bets are off.

Someone in my family is a judge of the Court of Quebec. I saw him last weekend. We talked about that doctor case and his "flash" insanity for a moment. He said that if he had been the judge, he would not have proposed the insanity outcome to the jury. He is very cynic sometimes and what he would say is "maybe the Norwegian had a 'flash' insanity for 9 years!".

I actually hope that the max is 21 years PER MURDER, which would make him serve 93x21 years. As far as I am concerned, in the worst place they can find, with the worst criminals who do not give a fuck about themselves anymore, because they are locked up for life anyway, but hate hate hate hate kid-killers.
It's the defense that would put forth the insanity argument. I'm not sure the judge could stop it.
From what he said, it's the judge who decides the possible sentences since they are elements of Law.
